The tech world is a complicated place. You have an inbox full of unread mail, an iPhone buzzing with push notifications and a Netflix queue brimming with unwatched episodes of Orange Is The New Black. No wonder you’ve been phubbing (that’s short for “phone-snubbing”) your friends lately.
But the rules of social etiquette are starting to catch up with technology. A survey of 100 smartphone users by eBay Deals found that 73% of people disapproved of playing mobile games at work (sayonara, Candy Crush), 89% wouldn’t dream of talking on the phone during a movie, and 94% were adamant that texting while driving is a big no-no.
The results also showed that younger smartphone users are more accepting of behaviors that fly in the face of traditional etiquette, such as emailing during meetings and texting in the middle of a meal.
